What is Maya Abdominal Therapy?
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy™ (ATMAT) represent an unbroken chain of knowledge handed down from generation to generation of midwives, healers, and shamans in the Maya Tradition of Belize. ATMAT was developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo based on her apprenticeship with the Maya healer Don Elijio Panti and her own education, training, and research as a Naprapathic physician.

These ancient Maya techniques eliminate the primary cause of reproductive and digestive complaints, and the congestion in the pelvis and abdomen. This aids in preventing the progression of symptoms of chronic disease by restoring the body to its natural balance, by correcting the position of organs that have shifted and restrict the flow of blood, lymph, nerve & chi energy.

Who can this technique help?
This external, noninvasive manipulation is great for women of all ages, but is especially great for women who would like to get pregnant, have had one or multiple births, have excessive scar tissue, or have undergone abdominal surgery. It brings an awareness to your core, an area most of us feel disconnected from, and it works for everyone to enhance vital organ function.

Initial Session

The first session is 90 minutes long. In the first part, we go over an in-depth health history so I can get a really good understanding of who you are, and we can address any goals, concerns, and questions you might have. From there we can develop a care plan together.

The second part consists of the massage, which is from your just underneath your rib cage to your pubic bone. Your chest and lower body are covered. This also includes a nice back massage which helps me to asses upper and lower tension, with emphasis on the low back. I teach you a self care massage technique, accompanied with a handout, so you can do this for life.

Special note: You might do the Inital Session, but then space out on your good intentions of getting back for your follow up. I want you to picture me giving you the “Mom eyes”, you need to come back for one more.

2-6 Follow up Sessions

Although you will probably experience a positive shift after one session, I strongly recommend 2-6 sessions be carried out in sequential months.

Follow up sessions last anywhere from 60-90 minutes. Consultations last about 15-30 minutes in which we discuss your experience after the last massage, observations, changes, questions, and your self care technique. This is followed by another abdominal and back massage.

The way I typically see it: The first session identifies and addresses our goal, the second session continues to address the goal, but also creates a new normal, and the third session helps to reinforce the new normal. It’s really fun to see the difference from the first to third session.

The self care is recommended 1-3 times a week, depending on what we are working with.

I've put a package together for your convenience, should you choose to go this route.
